Want to turn your words into art?

Good afternoon,

Right now I am at my office; working overtime since the new promotion had been released. A lot of operators had made hundreds of cancels/revisions/new bookings. Right now

I’m on break to do this blog.

~~Thanks to a friend, I was introduced to this really cool website that literally turns words into an art form. Wordle.net creates “word clouds” in which the most used words take a more prominent place than lesser used ones. Commonly used words like “a,” and “the,” are left out, leaving only the major ones to find their place in a Wordle.

The program is the brainchild of Jonathan Feinberg who, on IBM’s nickel, produced this amazing piece of code that’s entirely free to all of us. Feinberg, who claims the site gets about ten hits a second, collaborated with a couple dozen people-among them artists, software developers, Java experts-to visually depict the power of language.

Although uses for Wordle seem more whimsical than practical, a word cloud, if studied, can say much about the meaning of a speech, phrase or letter, etc.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

In “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”, Harry obtains a potions book which used to be belong to the very mysterious Half-Blood Prince. Harry finds that the Half-Blood Prince’s ancient scribbles are written along the margins of almost every page, giving Harry advice on how to improve greatly on his Potions work, and also teaching him a few helpful (and dangerous) spells along the way. Amidst this, Harry is starting private lessons with Professor Dumbledore, during which Harry learns the dark secrets of Voldemort’s past, hoping that they could use these secrets to find a way to defeat him. In the end, Harry and Dumbledore discover the horrible dark magic that Voldemort has been able to use, leading to a startling revelation.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” is scheduled for release on July 17, 2009.

Recipe: Beer Bread

I found this recipe online and we decided to make this and it turned out to be good with soup….

Thought I should share with you guys:

1429649427_d0f425a6c5Ingredients: 3 cups flour, sifted – key to success! (you can use whole wheat or regular)

3 tsps baking powder (omit if using Self-Rising Flour)

1 tsp salt (again, omit if using Self-Rising Flour)

1/4 cup sugar 1 can or bottle of beer (approx. 12 OZ or 341ml)

1/3 cup melted butter (use margerine is you’re a dairy-free kinda kid)

Directions:

1) Preheat oven to 375F.

2) Mix dry ingredients, then and beer.

3) Pour batter into a greased loaf pan, then pour melted butter over mixture (it’ll swim in it a wee bit)

4) Bake 50-60 min, remove from pan and cool for at least 10 minutes – if you can.

NOTES: Sifting flour for this s a must! Skipping sifting will turn your bread into a brick or weapon of mass destruction. If you do not have a sifter, use a spoon to spoon the flour into the 1 cup measure. It works, but isn’t as effective as sifting. The final result should be a nice dense, thick, hearty and very tasteful bread, NOT A PUCK!

Singapore Airline and Ipod

singapore-airlines-tail

Singapore Airlines will become the first carrier to offer Apple iPod connectivity to economy passengers when it launches services with new Airbus A330-300s .

I personal think Singapore Airline is the TOP carrier, they have the most friendly service, they are on time, smooth flight, and I’ve never had complain about their carrier.

Many thanks to Singapore to work with Ipod! And yes Apple ROCKS!

Man Kills Wife for Changing Facebook Status to ‘Single’

A man murdered his estranged wife after he became “enraged” that she had changed her marital status to single on the social networking site Facebook.

Edward Richardson, 41, was found guilty of stabbing to death Sarah Richardson, 26, a hairdresser, in her parents’ house in Staffordshire on May 12 last year.

Fiona Cortese of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Richarsdon became enraged when Sarah changed her marital status on Facebook to single and decided to go and see her as she was not responding to his messages.”

Stafford Crown Court heard that Richardson, a carpenter from Biddulph, Stoke-on-Trent, had sought out Mrs Richardson in her parents house and entered by breaking the front door window.

images1“Once inside he found Sarah in her bedroom and subjected her to a frenzied and brutal attack with a knife and then attempted to take his own life,” said Ms Cortese.

She said: “We hope that today’s guilty verdict will go some way to easing the pain of Sarah’s friends and family after losing her in such a violent and abrupt way.”

Proposal To Close SD School For The Deaf

24412The Governor proposes closing the South Dakota School for the Deaf to save the state $2 million a year.  The idea has shocked many, including students who currently attend the school. But the state has a plan for them and says it was only a matter of time before the school was going to close anyway.

For more than a century, the South Dakota School for the Deaf has served thousands of children and their families.

But the state could close the school because of declining numbers. Currently only 30 students attend the school.

Don Jorgensen: Are you disappointed?
Keegan Sparks: Yeah.
Don Jorgensen:  Because you’re going to have to go to Washington?
Sparks:  Which is hard to communicate because I’m hard of hearing and he’s deaf and a lot of us will have to go to public schools or another school for the deaf.

The plan is to have the students attend their respective public school districts. For Sparks, that means going to Washington.

“I knew it would close because the high school group is too small,” Sparks said.

While some students are disappointed, members of the Board of Regents say for some, closing the school will be best for them in the long run.

“We will make sure the child gets the educational experience as equal to what they were getting at the school and hopefully better,” Executive Director of the South Dakota Board of Regents Tad Perry said.

Perry says the state will help those students transition back into their school through an outreach program.

“We’ll rebuild that staff, a deaf education specialist, audiologist who will go out and work with the families and their children to make sure they are getting the education experience that they should have,” Perry said.

If the legislature approves of the governor’s recommendation, the school will officially close July 1, leaving about 20 people out of work.

Perry says there are almost 400 deaf students who already attend their own school districts across the state.
